Summer Class Descriptions

Dates:

  • July 6 - August 10 for Wednesday Afternoon/Evening Class
  • July 10 - August 14 for Saturday Class

Summer is a great time to have fun and Keys for Kids classes are no exception. Many students excel in the more relaxed atmosphere of the summer. It is a wonderful time to continue the progress you have made during the school year or to "catch up" if you feel you have fallen behind.

SUMMER Keys for Kids CLASSES for new BEGINNERS:

Summer is a fantastic time to join our Keys for Kids program! Join the fun and make music with your child over the summer, with no long-term commitment. If you plan to enroll in a Keys for Kids piano class in the fall, this is a great way to experience a positive introduction to the program and to evaluate your child’s interest. Parent participation is required.

Summer Tots:

Age: infant through 4 years Schedule

Studies have shown that music education during the early childhood years contributes to better development of language, physical coordination, social and emotional development, and concentration. Join us for special summer-themed classes, complete with singing, moving, instrument play, improvising, and active listening! This mixed-age class is a perfect opportunity for allowing siblings to enjoy a class together.

Take Off to Mini Keys:

Age: 4-5

An exciting first music experience with age-appropriate introductions to solfege singing, keyboard playing, ear and rhythm training, movement, and reading music. The elements of music are introduced in an interactive approach to best utilize a child's memory and enthusiasm. Child and parent bond as a music team both in class and at home. Enjoyment and encouragement are emphasized as children develop a firm musical foundation, which can be applied to any future instrument.

Take Off to Kinder Keys:

Age:6-7

A comprehensive beginner’s course incorporating all of the Mini Keys® activities, and modified for the more advanced abilities of this age group, adding creative and ensemble activities. A wide variety of games and exercises inspire enthusiasm and confidence, and reinforce musical concepts. This engaging environment introduces children to the same notation and techniques used by generations of musicians and composers. Child and parent work as a music team in class and at home on weekly exercises with workbooks.

Take Off to Super Keys:

Age:8-12 Schedule

A fast-paced, comprehensive beginner’s course incorporating an introduction of the Kinder Keys® activities, plus more advanced music theory and exercises that employ this group’s greater ability to analyze and memorize patterns in melodies, harmonies, and rhythm. New musical elements are reinforced through a variety of individual and ensemble keyboard activities. Students learn to transpose, compose, perform solos, and develop ensemble technique by being part of a keyboard orchestra.

SUMMER Keys for Kids ENSEMBLE classes for CURRENT students:

Our Summer Keys Ensemble classes are an excellent way for our continuing group students to continue their music training in a relaxed summer environment, while gaining valuable experience performing as part of an ensemble. Each student in our Summer Keys Ensemble class will be assigned to play a vital part in a piano piece, and students will work together to bring the piece to life. Our Summer Keys Ensemble classes will add consistency and continuity to a practice routine over the summer -- it is strongly recommended to ensure a great return in the fall. Every group is compiled of students from different classes that are similar in difficulty level:

Important Notes:

BEGINNING students should start in one of the LEVEL 1 classes, according to the age. Registration from fall to winter and to spring is automatic.
