Even as toddlers, children can understand many musical concepts: beat, tempo, duration, rhythm pattern, melody direction, etc. Keys for Kids combines all these aspects in a fun and dynamic session of singing, moving, instrument play, improvising, and active listening.
During the class, parents or caregivers not only play an important part by supporting their children’s activity but also participate actively with children. This mixed-age class is a perfect opportunity for allowing siblings to enjoy a class together.
Children and parents participate in playful activities such as beginning rhythm and pitch games involving singing and spatial awareness. They develop basic locomotive and ear training skills, body awareness, musical language, and a piano geography.
Some age appropriate classic activities include echoing and copying, imitation, partner games, aural activities, and simple group songs. Children will develop confidence in their skills and musical ability, learn piano geography and play simple short songs on the piano, learn basics of music notation. Give your child the gift of song! This engaging course allows children to learn the basics about singing in a comfortable group environment. Through age appropriate games and activities, children will learn how to recognize and match pitch, improvise songs, learn basic singing and breathing techniques, sight singing, ear training, and music reading. The curriculum is designed with the flexibility for students to follow their interests and abilities.
Designed for kids age 5-8, this singing class is a musical exploration of songs from several different styles in a fun and engaging group setting! With everything from show tunes to popular folk songs, we work on good breathing techniques, movement and expression, basic elementary harmonies, and ear training - all to the tune of songs we love to sing! The result will be the development of each student's vocal strength, in addition to invaluable performance confidence. This class is an exciting introduction to a healthy voice!
A continued adventure in voice, this group class provides a positive and welcoming environment for kids age 8-13 where students will get a chance to develop their individual and ensemble singing! Incorporating movement and musical expression into musical scenes, we will continue to learn about what strengthens the voice and discover the elements that make singing so enjoyable. With an emphasis on sharing and healthy vocal techniques, the students will gain new exciting knowledge and a wide array of fun musical experiences!
Beginning Students age 6- 10 years old (no prerequisite)

This engaging course allows children to learn the basic guitar techniques in a comfortable semiprivate/small group environment. We learn the basics of notation and rhythm, guitar tuning and simple strums and techniques, learn basic chords, and play in a guitar "band".
The curriculum is flexible enough to follow each student’s interests and abilities. Musical concepts will be reinforced weekly in this supportive and non-competitive class. This class gives students a strong foundation in guitar playing so that they can expand their repertoire to include classical, rock, jazz, blues, and popular music. Buy, rent or borrow a guitar and come give it a try!
(Ages 4 - 6) - Boston Children's Theatre most popular introduction to theatre! Center Stage Discovery is a fun, active introduction to creative drama for your child. Taught by a theatre-education specialist, each class morning will include drama games, activities, songs, and crafts based on a seasonal theme. At the end of the session, there will be a “sharing session” for parents.
(Ages 7 - 10) - Open to the beginning musical theatre student. Each student will be assigned scenes and songs from the Broadway canon to develop musical theatre performance skills. Topics explored in the class include vocal technique, music repertoire & an introduction to performing music theatre scenes and songs. The class ends in a presentation of scenes for family and friends.
(Ages 10 - 13) - Each student will be assigned scenes and songs from the Broadway canon to hone their musical theatre performance skills. The class ends in a presentation of scenes for family and friends. Open to the intermediate musical theatre student, or students who have completed Music Theatre Studio One, or who have previous music theater experience.
(Ages 4 - 6) - Is your child the star of their own show? A class for 4-6 year olds who love to perform and take the stage. Class will focus on basic dance and movement, as well as learning dance combinations to some Disney favorites! A great course to begin to integrate dancing, singing and acting as one.
(Ages 6 - 12) - Want to dance on Broadway? A class for 7-12 year olds with basic to intermediate dance experience. Class will focus on musical theatre dance styles and technique, as well as learning dance audition combinations from some of Broadway's most popular shows, such as Wicked, Beauty & the Beast, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, & Newsies. Students will learn how to pick up dance steps and combinations, as well as how to perform them like the pros!
(Ages 12 - 15) - A class for 12-15 year olds with intermediate dance experience. Class will focus on musical theatre dance styles, technique, and the ability to pick up audition combinations and choreography. Students will learn how to prepare for a dance audition as well as perform for an audience; using songs from some of Broadway’s most popular shows. Rock Band (all ages)
Keys for Kids Rock Band is coached by our guitar and drum instructor, Alejandro Castellano, in a structured rehearsal that meets once per week, on Friday evenings at 5:00pm.
The equipment needed for a full scale rock band is provided by Keys for Kids, including rehearsal space and full P.A. Electric guitar and bass students are required to bring their own amp for rehearsals. Students will collaborate to name their band, and at the end of each session the rock band from each age group will perform a full 20 minute set for friends and family.
To be eligible for enrollment, students must be currently enrolled in private lessons or group classes at Keys for Kids, as Rock Band is an extension, or in addition to, private lessons. Electric guitar, bass, drum, voice, and keyboard students are all welcome to join.
Music Play is a 30 minute music exploration experience for kids with special needs. This will introduce vocal songs and instrumental play using drums and other percussive instruments, as well as incorporating movement songs and activities. This curriculum offers the class general music appreciation, and promotes stronger social and communicative skills.
